Cavell, Edith (Louisa)

(4 dic. 1865, Swardeston, Norfolk, Inglaterra–12 oct. 1915, Bruselas, Bélgica).

Enfermera inglesa, heroína de la primera guerra mundial. Comenzó su carrera de enfermera en 1895. En 1907 se convirtió en la primera matrona de un hospital en Bruselas, en donde mejoró en forma considerable el nivel de la enfermería. Después de que Alemania ocupó Bélgica (1914), formó parte de un grupo clandestino que ayudó a cerca de 200 soldados aliados a escapar a los Países Bajos. Posteriormente fue arrestada y ejecutada por los alemanes.
